I started my first spiral-bound notebook in June 1992 as I was getting ready to launch the first issue of AudioFile in newsletter format (see page 12). Today, I carry around notebook #114. Crack any one from the pile on this page, and you'd find an eclectic array of random thoughts, to-do lists, people to contact, and lots of ideas, many we tried and plenty we didn't. Together the notebooks form a publishing chronicle of messy vitality that I think feeds the energy we put today into AudioFile's printed issues and ever-growing digital presence. On this big anniversary I feel a little like Janus, the two-faced Roman god. Looking back, I see 25 years of exciting evolution in audio- books; our dedicated AudioFile editors and staff; dozens of reviewers who have listened and judged and then written our 41,000-plus reviews; plus the indispensable creators of audiobooks—authors, narrators, producers and publish- ers—and all our partners and advertisers (see page 13). And looking forward? Even without an oracle, I believe that the growing passion for the listening experience will be the driving force for AudioFile's next chapters. The pace of audiobook publishing is up, and with it, listeners' desire to find the best audiobooks for their needs. Publishing in unique ways on multiple platforms, AudioFile is poised to meet this demand. 25 Years and Counting Editor's Notes Robin Whitten Editor and Founder June/July 2017 n 9 AudioFile Online Blog: Facebook: Twitter: SoundCloud: Photo by Kevin Brusie Some of Robin's 25 years of notebooks
