For Matt Tavares, audiobooks go hand in hand with his work illus- trating books for children. "I've been listening for years—mostly when I'm painting and have long stretches at my table," he says. "Audiobooks keep me in my seat and keep me from thinking about other things that I need to be doing." And what does he listen to? "My world is children's books, so audiobooks are where I jump into the world of grown-up fiction. I listen to a lot of fiction and some nonfiction." For example, while he was working on his book Dasher, he was listening to Walter Isaacson's biography about Benjamin Franklin as research for an upcoming book, A Ben of All Trades: The Most Inventive Boyhood of Benjamin Franklin, which releases in March. Tavares also counts as favorites Jim Dale's performances of the Harry Potter series—"my whole family has listened"— and Elizabeth Acevedo's audiobooks. "Even for people who have read her books, to hear her perform them is a whole other thing."—Jennifer M. Dowell Matt Tavares Children's Book Author & Illustrator Ogunquit, Maine Listening With . . .
