Melissa Sweet, children's book illustrator and author of Some Writer: The Story of E.B. White, says that she's listened to White's classic narration of Charlotte's Web "countless times, for years in my car. I definitely became a listener with his children's books." So it's not surprising that she was "over the moon" to be asked not only to illustrate the cover for a new audio version of Charlotte's Web, narrated by Meryl Streep and a full cast, but also to write and record an appreciation to be included on the audio- book. Narrating was a new—and emotional—experience. "I walked in the studio and I said, 'I read this aloud to my husband twice and I started to cry twice.' We went through a few takes, and some places were a little tougher than others." Then she remembered that White himself "had seventeen takes to get through the death of Charlotte. I got through it, but it takes everything."—Jennifer M. Dowell Melissa Sweet Children's Book Writer & Illustrator Portland, Maine "I definitely became a listener with E.B. White's children's books."
