10 n AudioFile/ The 2019 Audies Gala This page: 1. Queer Eye's fashion expert Tan France emceed the star-studded 2019 Audie Awards Gala, which took place March 4 at Guastavino's in New York City. 2. Narrator Bahni Turpin took home Audiobook of the Year for her narration of Tomi Adeyemi's YA fantasy, Children of Blood and Bone. 3. Dirk Maggs (l) wrote, produced, and directed the full-cast audio drama production of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Hexaagonal Phase, which won the Science Fiction Audie Award. And narrator Simon Vance won the Mystery Audie Award for Elizabeth George's The Punishment She Deserves. 4. Narrator Dion Graham (l) and Live Oak Media's Arnie Cardillo celebrated a win for Before She Was Harriet, which won the Audie Award for Young Listeners and which Graham directed. Facing page: 5. Actor Patton Oswalt presented the Audie Award for Audio Drama. 6. LeVar Burton's performance of The Good Neighbor: The Life and Work of Fred Rogers was a finalist in two categories. 7. Author/narrator Elizabeth Acevedo's The Poet X was a finalist in both the Narration by the Author and Young Adult categories. 8. Narrator Guy Lockard won the Middle Grade Audie Award for Jason Reynolds's Sunny. 9. Lisa Lucas, executive director of the National Book Foundation, was one of three esteemed judges for the Audiobook of the Year category, along with NPR's Linda Holmes and Ron Charles from The Washington Post. 10. Narrators Julia Whelan (l) and Edoardo Ballerini took home the Audie Awards for Best Female Narrator and Best Male Narrator, respectively. Whelan won for her narration of Tara Westover's memoir Educated, and Ballerini won for Dean Koontz's Watchers.
