Children's book illustrator Ryan T. Higgins has a ritual. "I listen to all seven of the Harry Potter audiobooks every time I illustrate a new book." The British versions, read by Stephen Fry. "If he could just narrate every book I listen to, I'd be happy." When Ryan's not listening to Harry Potter, he listens to fiction, science, and biography audiobooks—lots of them. "I spend eight hours a day just sitting and drawing, and my brain has the leisure of being able to think about other stuff." Ryan's picture book Mother Bruce was turned into a read-along, and it was a finalist in the 2018 Audie Awards. Now, Ryan is working on his next Bruce book. "There's going to be a big rainstorm with a little of bit of drama, a little bit of suspense—and hopefully lots of laughs." We can't wait.—Jennifer M. Dowell Ryan T.
